Why combine astrology with psychotherapy?

Expanding our perspective

Astrology and psychotherapy both provide insight into a person's way of being, emotional makeup, and their unique life experiences. Astrology looks at the positions and movements of celestial bodies, such as planets and stars, to gain insight into a person's character and life events. Psychotherapy helps people explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours to gain insight and promote positive change and overall wellbeing.

Both Astrology and Psychotherapy contribute to self understanding. As we get to know ourselves better, we navigate life with more awareness and ease.

Integrating astrology into psychotherapy can enhance the therapeutic process by providing a unique perspective on the person's life experiences and inner inclinations. An astrological chart provides a roadmap for understanding a person's strengths and weaknesses, as well as their patterns of behaviour and emotional tendencies.

Deeper understanding

At a deeper level, the astrological chart can also show us what is the soul’s purpose here now, and we can reframe all lived experience in light of that.

Combining astrology and psychotherapy in my practice, allows me to help clients gain a deeper understanding of themselves and their life experiences.

It’s also very helpful to understand the deeper significance behind traumatic life events, relationship dynamics, emotional dysregulation, lack of direction, anxiety, a need to travel, what brings us joy, what we need to feel happy, and the many pieces that are part of living life more whole.

At a very specific level, I’ve been exploring how attachment styles play out in astrology. I’m not surprised to find a lot on information in the natal chart that helps me to know how the person formed their initial attachment style, how they learned to love, what was present in the childhood environment, and what mechanisms may have been created as defences from threat.

Maybe even more fascinating, is to find in the chart what are the most nourishing ways to create new life patterns. How to support the journey of the soul expand to higher possibilities.

Currently I tend to always incorporate the exploration of the astrological chat in my psychotherapy work, unless a client prefers not to. The decision to mix astrology and psychotherapy is something I do together with a client, respecting their individual preferences and needs.
